Quality of Service (QoS)
We know how important reliability is to you and your business. With that in mind, we are proud to guarantee the quality of your voice service and/or video on nTelos network segments. QoS provides predictable performance by prioritizing the specific network traffic that is most important to you.
How does QoS work?
In the past, service providers would build separate networks to carry voice, data and video traffic. Today, the trend has grown toward a convergence of these various networks into one packet-based IP network. IP networks of the past have only offered "best-effort" delivery of packets, making no guarantees regarding when or whether a packet will be delivered to the receiver. In today' s fast-paced world of sensitive network traffic, this no-guarantee standard quickly becomes unacceptable. The IP network of today must be able to differentiate the services and types of traffic in order to support voice, video and data applications with varying service requirements.
We are able to protect the quality of prioritized network traffic by classifying the packets based on the type of data they contain (i.e. Voice, Video and Voice Control). Each type of traffic has its own value. The packets are marked with the corresponding values using the standard of DSCP (Differentiated Services Code Point).
We offer varying service levels, from protecting basic critical data to intricate prioritizing of sensitive voice and video traffic, ensuring that we have the plan to satisfy the precise needs of your business.
